Film Review
Who will watch "Die Another Day" forty years from now, let alone even remember (thankfully!) who Pierce Brosnan was? Not so with "Goldfinger." Arguably the best James Bond movie ever; it is still extremely entertaining four decades after its release. Sean Connery exudes both physical and mental menace as well as sheer sex appeal and sixties chic-Brosnan, in comparison, is about as threatening and stylish as a half empty box of Cheerios. But Connery is but one element of Goldfinger's appeal: there is Guy Hamilton's crisp, energy-charged direction, the fabulous title sequence and song by Shirley Bassey, German actor Gert Frobe's superb rendition as the gold-obsessed villain, and, of course, a bevy of beautiful Bond girls captured before a backdrop of spectacular international locations. Last, but not least, there is 007's fabulous Aston-Martin sport scar, outfitted with an array of gadgetry-again, an automobile with real personality that makes the current plasticky vehicle protagonists of the Bond movies pale in comparison. Believe me, after you see Goldfinger, you will start using the Brosnan Bond dvds as coasters?
